MT Won’t Wait to Kill Wolves
I guess we know where the state of Montana stands regarding wolves. It seems no mater what the majority of Americans say or the Interior Department says, they are going to kill wolves because they want to.
From the Huffington Post;
Defying federal authority over gray wolves, Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer on Wednesday encouraged ranchers to kill wolves that prey on their livestock – even in areas where that is not currently allowed – and said the state will start shooting packs that hurt elk herds.
Schweitzer told The Associated Press he no longer would wait for federal officials to resolve the tangle of lawsuits over wolves, which has kept the animals on the endangered species list for a decade since recovery goals were first met.
“We will take action in Montana on our own,” he said. “We’ve had it with Washington, D.C., with Congress just yipping about it, with (the Department of) Interior just vacillating about it.”
Read the rest if you have the stomach for it at The Huffington Post.
Big ranchers and the politicians they own are not listening to anyone. it does not matter to them that elk herds have improved and grown since the reintroduction of the wolf to the area. It does not matter to them that big ranchers get a big share of their grazing land from public lands and the public doesn’t want them to kill the wolves. It doesn’t matter to them that the wolf is an integral part of the wild environment and restores natural balance to the area.
No, all that matters to them is they want to kill wolves and like willful children throwing a tantrum, they will do what they want no matter what. Despite the fact that attacks from animalss that are not protected , like coyotes far exceed attacks by wolves, they will not listen.
I guess at this point all we can do is hope that activism and common sense will win out. There are a lot of people and organizations in this country that are fighting for the wolf. That fight will continue and Montana can just learn they are not a law unto themselves.

They Want to Kill ALL Wolves!
It is very hard to believe, but there is a Congressman in the US House of Representatives who is introducing legislation to remove wolves, ALL wolves from the endangered Species List.
He should have a hard time succeeding. Nevertheless, we have to act to put the brakes on his wrong headed action and let the government know we will not stand by and allow the wholesale slaughter of wolves in the wild in this country.
Below is a copy of the e-mail I received from Defenders of Wildlife. It is possible you received it too. But I am passing it along for those who didn’t and would like to help. Please make your feelings known.
42. That’s how many Mexican gray wolves are left in wild… in the entire world.
These wolves – found in the wild only in Arizona and New Mexico – face plenty of threats, including illegal killing by anti-wolf extremists. But now a Montana Congressman is taking aim at the life-saving protections these and other rare and beautiful animals need to survive.
Please take action now. Urge your U.S. representative to oppose Congressman Denny Rehberg’s attempts to eliminate vital, life-saving protections for America’s wolves.
Rehberg’s two bills would eliminate Endangered Species Act protections for every single wolf in the Southwest, Midwest and Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies.
The result? A no-holds-barred approach to wolf killing that would end efforts to stop wolf killings in the Southwest and could see Idaho lawmakers make good on their promise to “remove wolves by whatever means necessary.”
If passed, this legislation would also be the first ever to exempt a single species from the Endangered Species Act – setting a dangerous precedent for removing protections for other imperiled wildlife.
Make no mistake: These bills are bad for wolves, bad for the Endangered Species Act, and bad for the future of all America’s wildlife.
Help safeguard the future of wolves and other wildlife in America. Send your message right now.
We need to send a loud, clear message to Congress. Please take action now and help us send more than 50,000 messages to Congress by Friday.
Even with Endangered Species Act protections, the fragile population of wolves in the American Southwest is in danger. Without them, these wolves could be doomed.
For the Wild Ones,
I am getting very tired of the constant campaign against the wolf in this country. Lets stand up and show these people that there are more of us than there are of them. Americans love animals and especially dogs. So it is only logical that we love the wild dog that is the ancestor to all of out pet canines.
Let them know this kind of action will not stand!
Thank you for everything you do for animals and the environment.
Thank you from all the wolves in the United States.

Emergency – Support Wolves
It seems we are always having to launch a new fight to protect wolves from mass execution or malicious extermination in one form or another. Today is no different.
Idaho officials are still seeking to kill hundreds of wolves, Montana is likely to follow and Wyoming is still pursuing a shoot-on-sight wolf management plan. What is even worse, recent reports suggest Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar is promoting legislative language that would remove and eliminate Endangered Species Act protections for all grey wolves in the Northern Rockies.
As you can see, due to the short sighted attitude of the states with the collusion of Obama’s Interior Secretary, this could mean the end to wolves in the Northern Rocky Mountain States and that includes Yellowstone’s iconic wolves.
As we have noted before the Yellowstone wolves don’t read signs and don’t recognize state boundaries. But if the Interior Department gets away with this action, these wolves could be shot on sight simply for wandering outside Yellowstone and possibly even be killed inside the park itself. We cannot allow this to happen.
From Defenders of Wildlife;
Not only would wolves lose protections, they would also be put beyond the reach of the ESA forever unless the Secretary, at his sole discretion, chooses to restore them to the list of threatened or endangered species. Even worse, under the language, there would be no ability for the American public to petition for these protections in the future… regardless of how egregious state wolf management plans become.
The proposal is arbitrary and strikes a blow at the very foundation of the Endangered Species Act. Hundreds of wolves — maybe more than a thousand — could be killed. And you and I could lose America’s most effective tool for protecting imperiled wildlife.
Obviously the powers that be are getting tired of our petitions and are trying to eliminate the wolves and our ability to stand up for them in one stroke. We cant let them get by with this heinous action.
Our work to ensure a long-term recovery for these magnificent animals is far from over. Just look at your pet dog who might be laying at your feet or even in your lap right now. He or she is a direct descendant of the wolf and would not be here today if not for wolves. Please take the time to sign the petition today to help make sure wolves stay protected and have a safe environment in which to roam.
It is the height of cruelty to kill these magnificent animals just for doing what nature intended for them. We know that natural balance is restored to herds of moose and elk and other herbivores when the wolf is reintroduced to the environmental equation. We also know that wolves are not as much of a threat to domestic livestock as big ranchers like to claim and there are better ways of controlling the losses that do occur than killing all the wolves.
Lets stop the insanity now and put an end once and for all to the hysterical nonsense. The link below leads directly to the Defenders of Wildlife petition. Please help by signing it today.
Thank you for all you do to help animals and the environment.

Energy Healing for a Wolf
Have you ever heard of energy healing? It is what has been called in the past ‘New Age’. But after reading a little about it I find that it is ages old and has been practiced in many civilizations. It is known by many today as the ‘laying on of hands’.
The idea is the practitioner of this healing art is able to help the patient correct their energy flow and unblock this flow in the patient. The idea is to promote healing energy from the patients own body. It is often used in conjunction with other treatments and therapies to make the patient well.
Quite some time ago, I watched a show on television in which a vet was working with an energy healer and an acupuncturist over a period of months or years to heal a horse who had a very serious injury. I am sorry I can’t remember more about the show. I do remember I was impressed enough with the results this unconventional methodology achieved that I filed it away in my mind in case I needed help with the healing of one of the animals I am guardian for.
So when I saw the video below I was very interested in what these dedicated people were doing for their wolf friend, Apricot. I was truly amazed that a wolf would lay down and go through this kind of ritual. Especially considering she was being touched by a complete stranger. Her attitude toward the healing ritual is absolutely amazing. Watch the video and you will see for yourself.
I won’t make claims about any kind of particular treatment for a person or their pet. I don’t have the credentials to do that. However, I will say I am impressed with the results for animals that seem to be achieved by energy healing. I will go so far as to say I would be willing to try it for myself or my pet. If Apricot is any indication, this healing method seems to fit right in with what animals consider as good therapy and I trust the judgement of animals, especially canines like wolves.
I think Apricot is teaching us something even though we don’t speak her language.

Wolves in EXTREME Danger
I told you that I would be posting wildlife and environmental actions to my new blog bleedingearth.com which is focused on environmental issues. But fluffy feet is all about animals and wolves are animals.
Besides, I know how much the readers of this site love wolves. So I am posting this very special alert here as well as at bleeding earth. So here is the problem and I guarantee you are not going to like it.
Yellowstone Wolves were just returned to the endangered species list by the court system. However, it seems the Wildlife Services Agents in the government do not agree with the decision. They plan to work with Idaho officials to kill up to 80% of the wolves in North-Central Idaho by land and from the air. Their plan even includes gassing wolf puppies in their dens and sterilizing the alpha pairs in wolf packs.
These government employees are totally out of control. We must stop the slaughter of these animals and we must do it now. If they do not want to follow the will of the people who pay them (that is us, by the way) then they should be dismissed from their employment because their services are no longer needed.
People like Forest Rangers and other who care for the environment on a daily and up close basis have explained again and again to these die hard wolf murderers that the wolves actually enhance and help the environment by restoring balance between predator and prey. In fact, prey animals herds grow stronger and bigger with wolf predators around.
But these people seem to be so beholden to a few big ranchers and state officials on their payrolls, they have lost their sense of reason. It all boils down to the same thing as it does with wild horses. The horses take too much food and the wolves supposedly kill cattle and sheep.
Well, I have news for these ranchers, the land you are renting to graze your cattle belongs to the people of The United States and polls show very clearly we do not want the wild horses cruelly rounded up and we do not want the wolves wantonly murdered.
You get the grazing land you use for a pittance and you get money for the cattle you lose. How about we charge fair market price for the grazing land you use and we add the provision that no horses will be rounded up nor wolves killed on our lands. How would you like that? You pay a whole lot more plus the wild horses and wolves cannot be removed or disturbed. Then we will use the extra you pay to set aside lands you cannot touch.
We could do that, or we could just tell Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to get his people under control or he is out of there. His agency is to protect the lands, animals and environment for the American people. If he can’t do it, I can think of some environmentalists I know who can.
In case you haven’t noticed, I am beyond angry at all of this. I am furious and I intend to use what small resources I can to stop the insanity. It is cruel to gas wolf puppies and perhaps even more cruel to sterilize the alpha pair in a pack. By these actions alone these people show they are not trying to control the wolf population. They are trying to eradicate them.
Defenders of Wildlife has a petition to stop this unacceptable plan. We need a lot of signatures in order to impress upon these nimrods that we are serious. The more of us there are, the closer they will listen. Please add your name to the petition here and help save the iconic grey wolves from this slaughter.
Be sure to read the letter you are signing, it is well thought out and accurate about the situation. It will give you more understanding of what the big fight is all about.
Sign the Defenders of Wildlife letter at the link.
Thank you for every action you take to help animals and the environment.
