Dog Buried Alive is Rescued

The purest defination of love, a human and their dog.

All dogs deserve to be treated with kindness. There is no excuse for abuse and cruelty.

I have heard of and seen a lot of cruelty and abuse toward animals in my time here on Earth. But seldom have I seen a case of cruelty as bad as this one.

A hurt or disabled stray tan and white hound started hanging around a South African school. I suspect he was looking for food and just maybe a little comfort and companionship. No matter why he hung out there , was it reason enough to have the dog buried alive?

However, it seems the caretakers at the school  took offense at the stray dog’s barking and vowed to bury him alive on the school playing field as punishment. They did just that and they left the dog buried alive to suffocate underground.

But an anonymous call saved his life and rescuers managed to dig the animal out just in time. I’m happy it isn’t every day they have to rush to dig out a dog buried alive.

From Daily Mail UK;

Animal welfare boss Christina Pretorius said the dog was saved by a local vet and his assistant who received an anonymous tip-off about its live burial at 8.30am yesterday.

She said: ‘They rushed to the school and apprehended two caretakers on the school field. The men initially claimed the dog was dead, but on further questioning admitted the animal was still alive when they buried it.

‘They said one of the school’s senior supervisors had told them to get rid of the dog as it was being a nuisance by hanging around the classrooms.’ The dog was discovered at the bottom of a pit which had been dug five foot deep.

It was rescued by officials and taken to a local veterinarian practice for an examination.

Experts said the animal was disabled, although it is believed that it could have been injured during a previous road traffic accident.

Follow the link to see pictures of the dog who has now been named Warrior. The name seems fitting to me. I cannot imagine what these men were thinking. Even though their supervisor supposedly told them to do this act of cruelty, they should have known it was wrong on its face and also against the law.

Whatever the reasoning, this is cruelty at its worst and these two men along with their supervisor deserve punishment.  It was just luck that the dog was rescued in time to keep him alive.

At this point we can only hope for the adoption of Warrior into a loving forever home.  We also hope he recovers from his injuries.

Thanks to the rescuers who worked to get Warrior out of his premature grave and special thanks to the anonymous person who called in the alert so he could be rescued.

HSUS Cat Adoption Event

Beautiful Blue Eyed Cat

The Humane Society of The United States does great work.  Recently they took hundreds of cats from a hoarding situation.

The cats that could be treated and rehabilitated were made well. Unfortunately it was too late for some and they were humanely put out of their misery.

The cats that were healthy and rehabilitated were put in a weekend cat adoption event.    HSUS wanted to find homes for over five hundred cats with this event. The cats look beautiful and well and the cat adoption was very successful

The video below is of the rescue cats and the adoption event.  It will put tears and joy in your heart at the same time.  That animals so badly treated could still love humans and want our companionship is a miracle. That so many kind people stepped forward and made these animals their pets is a blessing.

Thanks to all the people at HSUS who work so hard on behalf of animals and thanks to all the people who opened their hearts to these beautiful cats.

Cat Friends

Siamese cat friends.

I have been told in the past having two cats is great but not three.  Why?  Because two will form a bond and shut out the third. The idea was to always have enough cats so each one could have a BFF I guess.
However, I also know from personal experience this ‘rule’ doesn’t always apply and that two cats are not always the best thing in a household.
Here’s what I have to say on the matter.  You know your pet better than anybody.  Take a minute to think about it.  Is your cat very shy or is she possibly very jealous or very much a one cat per household type?  In  any of these cases another adult cat brought into the home could cause tension between the two animals and trouble could result from that tension.  A very slow and planned introduction between the two cats might do the trick and it might not.  They may never be cat friends.
The two cat rule I would say is a relatively sound one.  Keep in mind though the best thing to do if you want two cats and want to guarantee they will not only get along but be lifelong cat friends, get the two cats at the same time.  They don’t have to be kittens. Two adult cats that have been together in a rescue can be adopted together.  The people at the rescue can tell you if the two cats get along well and are cat friends or not.  There also are usually pairs of cats that have been brought in together that can be adopted together.  In some cases the shelter won’t adopt out one without the other because they are inseparable cat friends.
Again, if you already have a cat and are looking to adopt another, only you can decide if it is the best thing because you know your pet.  Just make sure you decide wisely and if you get another pet cat make sure introductions are made that keep consideration of the pet you already have as the top priority.  Some cats may take a few days longer to accept a new member of the family and even longer to really bond with them.  Other cats are fine after as little as a day with the new  pet in residence.
The video below is of three cats who obviously don’t have problems with one another.  I wonder if they are siblings or possibly mother cat and kittens?  They could also be completely unrelated.  Whatever way it is, they all three share a close bond that is enjoyable to watch.  These three are really and truly cat friends.

Not a Crazy Cat Lady

Everyone knows about crazy cat ladies.  They are usually older women with a whole house full of every kind of cat imaginable. Quite often they become animal hoarders and mot people think they are crazy.  However, they swear they are doing the best thing for the cats they keep, even if the cats live in terrible circumstances.

Taking all of this into consideration, what would you say if you heard about a lady who had seven hundred cats?  Yes, 700 cats! I know the first thing that would pop to your mind – crazy cat lady and animal hoarder.  I would probably think the same thing at first blush.

However, we all would be wrong.  This is no crazy cat lady, no animal hoarder and she is doing wonderful things for the cats in her care.  Her name is Ms. Lattanzio and she runs a wonderful place called Cat House on the Kings in Parlier, California..

Cat House on the Kings is a no kill shelter where Ms, Lattanzio takes in strays, offers low-cost spay and neutering referrals and helps in the rescue and adoption of hundreds of cats.  Now you have to admit, that is not crazy.  In fact, it is a wonderful endeavor that has saved the lives of many cats and allowed others to live out their lives in peace.

Watch the video below to get an idea of the wonderful rescue Ms. Lattanzio is running..

From Daily Mail;

Ms Lattanzio, who said her mother banned her from having a cat as a child, said she began taking rescues after a divorce.

Now, she takes in rescues from all over the world, and estimates she has saved close to 19,000 felines in almost two decades.

The Cat House on the Kings is the largest no kill cat sanctuary in the world and along with Ms. Lattanzio will be the subject of a National Geographic documentary titled  The Lady with 700 Cats.  It is narrated by Glee actress Jane Lynch as part of the Nat Geo WILD series premiering later this month.

Be sure to tune into the documentary and if you want to adopt a cat, you certainly know where you can find a whole bunch of them to choose from.
