Lioness Steals Camera

Lions are becoming more endangered every day. In fact, all of the big cats are under tremendous environmental pressure and have been steadily losing ground for a number of years.  Now with Tigers,Cheetahs and Lions the situation is critical, especially in some sub species of Tigers.

Any time we get to have a peek inside a big cat’s world, it is a thrill and adventure for animal lovers, naturalists and environmentalists.  Each new bit of information about their way of life and habits gives us new ammunition in the fight to save them.

The video below was a real surprise.  Obviously this lioness took a real liking to the camera that had been put out to document the lions.  When she decides to take the camera on a walk, we get to go along as if we were a cub she was carrying.  we get to see the sky through her whiskers and feel the bounce of her gait.

If you have a good imagination, this video is like a flight of fantasy .  Put yourself in the  place of a young cub seeing the vast grasslands and the almost impossibly blue skies as a very young lion.  Feel the gentleness of the jaws that can tear apart a water buffalo, but carry you with almost a caress.

Rev up your imagination and go for a great ride.

Bolivian Lions Arrive

About a month ago, I told you about Bolivian circus lions that were being taken out of Bolivia to Denver, Colorado so they could live out their lives at an animal sanctuary there.

Today I am happy to let you all know that the animals arrived in Denver safely and have gone to their new home.  These were circus lions who lived in traveling circuses and traveled in cages.  There lives were full of abuse and cruelty which can be proved by the fact that many of the big cats were sick and had to be nursed back to health in order to travel at all.

Animal activist Bob Barker of The Price is Right fame was responsible in large part for getting the lions to the United States.  His kindness to animals of all kinds is well known and he backs up his statements by using his fortune to help animals who need it.

Watch the video of the lions arriving in Denver.

Now that we are aware lions are seriously endangered lets hope we save more of the ones who have been put in circuses and shows. Every lion in the gene pool now is important. We must not let their lives be cruelly wasted.

Bolivian Lions to be Air Lifted

Lions are in trouble in their natural environment and are endangered in most of the world.  It is possible that the king of beasts will not be seen in the wild  for many more years.

Considering these problems for wild lions makes even sadder the conditions that captive lions throughout the world are subjected to.  Circus lions in particular are the objects of abuse and cruelty.

These big cats are so majestic and so iconic that it seems we should be doing a better job of taking care of them so they will be around for generations.

Now a group of animal activists know as Animal Defenders International has begun to save circus lions in the South American country of Bolivia.  The president of Bolivia signed a law last January banning the use of wild and domestic animals in the country’s traveling circuses.  ADI stepped up to help the lions displaced by these circuses.

Now 25 ex circus lions are being nursed back to full health so they can be air lifted to The Wild Animal Sanctuary outside Denver, Colorado in the United States.  Once there these lions will know the outdoors without being in tiny cages for the first time in their lives.

From Tree Hugger;

In a series of rescue operations in the past few months, Animal Defenders International (ADI), an animal protection group, and Bolivian authorities have freed 25 lions from circuses throughout the South American country. The removals of the lions from the circuses were in accordance with Bolvia’s Law 4040, signed last January by President Evo Morales, banning the use of wild and domestic animals in the country’s travelling circuses. Now recovering from lives of deprivation and poor treatment, the lions are temporarily living in a Santa Cruz compound, until they can reach their new home, nearly 5,000 miles away.

What a truly wonderful thing for these big cats.  To live their lives out knowing the feel of grass under their paws and see the world without  bars interfering in the view. ADI is asking for contributions because this rescue is very expensive.  If you or anyone you know wishes to help, follow the link to Tree Hugger for information.

Congratulations and a big thank you to the people helping these big cats.  I’m sure you will be blessed ten fold for your kind help to these creatures.
