One Woman-One Pelican

July 15, 2010 by: fluffyfeet

This post is about one woman in Mobile, Alabama named Patti Hoppe and one Pelican she befriended and named Bo-Bo.  I like this lady.  Perhaps I see a little of myself in her, I don’t know.  But I do know what she did for this injured bird is the same thing that I probably would have done in the same situation.

Patti and Bo-Bo are now living with the devastation that has been caused by the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.  The seemingly unstoppable slick is moving toward them and there seems to be no way to stop it.  Even if the well is sealed, the amount of oil in the waters of the Gulf  seems to assure oil and tar balls will continue to wash up for years on the beaches.

Obviously this lady cares a lot for Bo-Bo the Pelican.  What might happen to her friend if the oil comes to where he is must prey on her mind.  I certainly hope Patti can continue to find enough fish to feed Bo-Bo  I also hope the oil never gets into their river.  But, as with all things, only time will tell.

It was good of this lady to befriend the injured bird and make sure he didn’t starve to death before he recovered from his injuries.  It is good of the Pelican to stay close by and show up to be babied by his friend.  That this bird cares for her is obvious, that she cares for him goes without saying.  I hope when he is well enough he can return to his natural environment with other Pelicans without getting into any oil.
