Dog Put out for Trash Pick up

Most of us have known what it is like to lose a beloved animal friend.  It is especially hard to bear when a pet is taken from us due to carelessness or accident.

However, we all know that accidents do happen.  A dog runs off and gets hit by a car or a kitten falls down a pipe or between walls of the house.  These things do happen.

I can’t believe that any person would not be overjoyed that although their dog was hit by a car, it lived.  Wait, the dog had a broken leg.  So what do you do?

I don’t want to judge this man.  Maybe he didn’t have the resources to take the dog to the vet.  But hasn’t he ever heard about the ASPCA or other organizations that can and will help out in this type of circumstance?

No matter what, I cannot understand just leaving the dog to get well on his own and not even treating his cuts.  To then put the dog out by the curb in his cage with a blanket over it for the trash men to pick up is just beyond the pale.

But that is what happened to a one year old Labrador Retriever in Orlando, Florida.  His name is Dillinger and he was taken out to the curb with the rest of the garbage.  How shameful!

From wesh.com;

“Do something,” said Judy Sarullo of Pet Rescue by Judy, “and if you can’t do it, then at least have him put to sleep humanely rather than let suffer and then putting him in crate and asking someone dispose of it in garbage truck.”

In 2009, Orange County Animal Services investigated 3,400 cases of animal abuse, neglect and cruelty. Now, they have a website that works like a crime line where residents can anonymously report animal abuse.

“There’s a lot of fear of retaliation and rightfully so,” said Kathleen Kennedy of Orange County Animal Services. “Usually abusers are abusers, whether victims are children or animals or domestic partners. All those things are linked so people don’t want their name put out there.”

Dillinger is in good spirits, according to the pet rescue, and is available for adoption. He is said to love other dogs and people despite the circumstances.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a criminal investigation into the situation and Dillinger’s owner.

Well of course Dillinger still loves people.  Hes a Lab!  They are one of the most people loving and forgiving breeds ever.

It is really good to see this is being considered a criminal investigation.  In my mind it is cruelty and absolutely all animal cruelty is criminal.
