We are now witnessing a horrific environmental disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. It really appears the greed and environmental incompetence of big corporations has finally resulted in the worst possible of all scenarios.
One of the worst things about all of this, besides the loss of beaches, wild areas, bayous and wildlife is the refusal of the oil giant BP to let others come in and attempt to clean up their mess. Is it really the case that they are trying to save all the crude they can and the heck with the environmental cost? It certainly is beginning to look that way.
We have all now received a graphic illustration of what can happen when corporations let their greed out run their technical knowledge. So why isn’t our government saying NO to any more offshore drilling? Why is drilling set to begin in another very sensitive environmental area in the Arctic waters off Alaska’s coast? It looks likely that the oil giants will have gotten rid of quite a few endangered species in the Gulf. Is it necessary to risk killing the nearly the last of the Polar Bears, some seal sub-species and many whales too? The oil giants can’t competently respond to the emergency in the Gulf where services and ships are close by. How do they propose to meet an emergency in frigid seas full of icebergs and with services or ships many, many miles away?

Let them know they trash the environment, eliminate helpless animals and birds, destroy livelihoods and a way of life plus ruin beautiful coastlines and wetlands at their own peril. Nothing says we have to re-elect them. Also let them know a lot of people are watching very closely and we will remember.
