How could anyone slam a little puppy and beat him hard enough to result in his death? All over getting mad because the dog wasn’t cooperating with its bath.
I readily confess that I do not understand it and I absolutely know I do not want to understand this behavior. In my opinion there is no way to understand cruelty to puppies, kittens, dogs, cats and other domestic animals. It is even less fathomable to me than cruelty toward wild animals because these domestic animals trust you to take care of them. They are your pets and your friends.
Nevertheless, a man who did exactly that horrible act of slamming a small puppy was sentenced to four months in jail for the offense. He could have received two years under the law but the judge was lenient, even though the District Attorney who was prosecuting the case asked for the longer penalty.
The Animal Welfare Act is designed to protect animals from mistreatment. But it doesn’t cover an individuals abuse of domestic animals. It seems to me and many other animal lovers they have overlooked an important part of this law.
You can sign a petition here to tell Congress to expand the Animal Welfare Act so it covers domestic animals. I think it was a bad oversight to not cover them in the first place. Let’s correct it now and make animal cruelty illegal in all fifty state. Let’s also make sure there will be fitting consequences for breaking this law. Pets are not disposable, throw away items. They are living, sentient beings who deserve better than this.
Thank you for all you do for animals and the environment.
