The death toll keeps rising for wild horses because of the roundups that have already taken place. But the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is already scheduling more roundups.
Seriously, what in the world is wrong with these people?
According to this bureaucratic arm of our government 2000 horses can’t be sustained on a half a million acres. Balderdash! I would like to use much stronger language but I know a lot of young people read this blog…so Double Balderdash! Anyone who has been around horses knows that is just a big lie!
Wild horses and burros are more than just stray animals to the people of the Western United States. They are a symbol of all that is free and beautiful here, just like the eagle, hawk, bear and wolf. In fact, all over the world, wild horses or mustangs are looked upon with awe. They are a symbol of early days in this country and the Wild West of legend.
Believe me when I say, we will lose much ore than just the burros and mustangs if they are all rounded up, eaten or driven to death. We will lose an essential and irreplaceable part of ourselves and our heritage.

While the Bureau of Land Management has a temporary hold on roundups for foaling season, they’re going to be back at it soon with roundups in California and Wyoming.
As the BLM tells it, with no scientific proof, western range lands can’t support the current number of horses and burros. They’d like us to believe they’re doing them a favor by running them down with helicopters, destroying herd dynamics and stockpiling the ones that don’t die during the roundup or transport into holding pens where they wait for death or what will most likely be a horrific end at a slaughterhouse.
Despite public outcry, they continued with the last roundup at the Calico Complex in Nevada, which ended in February and brought in 1,922 horses, killed at least 86 of them and caused 40 mares to abort their foals. Foals born in holding facilities aren’t even counted.
