Bear Gets His Head Stuck

April 22, 2010 by: fluffyfeet

What a revolting development this is.  That must be what a young black bear in Vermont was thinking as he wandered blindly through the trees hitting more than he was missing.

It was really no wonder the poor bear was running into trees and anything else in his path.  For you see, he had a milk can stuck on his head and couldn’t see anything in his way.

Thankfully, this story ends happily with the fire department cutting the milk can off the unfortunate animal.  Of course he was tranquilized before they attempted to free him and they were able to release him into the woods a little later.  He was only slightly the worse for wear and I bet he won’t go sticking his head in any milk cans in the near future.  He learned a lesson and thankfully was rescued by some caring people.

But seriously people, if you are going to live out where there are wild animals, you must keep everything that has even the slightest chance for the odor of food out of the way of the animals.  Trash cans have to be bear and raccoon protected and pet food dishes cannot just be left to sit out.

In my view, it isn’t that the animals are coming into our neighborhood.  It is that we have moved into theirs.  You give up some things to live out from the city on the edge of the wilderness.  However, I think you gain a lot more than you lose.  Be sure you do your homework and realize what kind of wild animals may be living around you.  Then learn how to take precautions to keep both your families and the animals safe.  You should also do some learning about taking the environment into consideration in your life style.

We can all get along, but we must understand wild animals are not stuffed animals or cute cartoon characters.  They will instinctively grab food that is available so it is up to you to keep it out of their way.  The bear in this situation weighed 200 pounds and could be quite dangerous if you didn’t know what you were doing.   I really hate to read about people that are hurt or worse because of their own foolishness or ignorance in the outdoors.  Be sure to know what you are doing and you should be safe.

And remember, the only thing you should use to shoot animals is a camera.
