There is a group of wolves that at one time were numerous throughout Arizona and New Mexico. These wolves are known as Mexican Grey Wolves or Lobos. Because of hunters, poachers and trappers there are only 42 of these animals left in the wild in the southwest. We need to do something to help this distinct group of dogs or they will be extinct.
We have pushed these animals to the brink by ignoring game laws, by not protecting them and by taking more and more of their environment for our use.
Our friends at Defenders of Wildlife have written a letter that is going to Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. It asks that this wolf subspecies again be protected in an aggressive manner so that we may see them in the wild for generations to come.
This wolf subspecies was only saved before due to captive breeding programs. But now their numbers have declined by 20% in the last year and there is only one breeding pair left in the wild.
We must make the government listen and step in to help this highly endangered species. Please sign the letter to Ken Salazar. You can get there by following the link below.
Help us stop the cruelty these wolves have been subjected to.
Thank you so much for all that you do.
