Help Stop Arctic Drilling

February 23, 2010 by: fluffyfeet

Animals in the Arctic are endangered and at the very least anyone would have to admit that the areas environment is fragile.  Polar Bears, Arctic Foxes, Penguins and various species of Whales call this area home.  Many of these animals are fighting for the very survival of their species.

Then why is the Obama Administration considering allowing Shell Oil to drill for oil and natural gas off the Alaskan coast this summer?  This questions begs an answer.  It seems to be at odds with what we have come to expect from this President and his administration.

Our Friends at Care 2 Petition Site sent an action alert about this situation and I am posting it here so you all can register your opinions with the government.  Please pass it along to your Facebook and Twitter friends too.  Lets try to nip this situation in the bud before any more harm is done to the beautiful animals of the North.  Hopefully we can rescue the ones that are left so our children and grandchildren can know a world where whales and polar bears are still here.

Care2 Action Alert

Just when you thought drilling in the arctic couldn’t get any worse, it does. The Obama administration is poised to allow Shell Oil to drill for gas and oil off the Alaskan coast this summer. If this goes through, Shell Oil will pump 1,800 tons of pollution into the fragile Arctic ecosystem in just six months.

President Obama: Don’t repeat the mistakes made by George W. Bush! The Arctic is one the world’s last pristine ecosystems and home to endangered polar bears, walruses, seals and whales. Stop the drilling >>

The pristine Arctic ecosystem and its wildlife are already suffering the effects of past oil and gas development, and this latest plan will only exacerbate the environmental destruction. Further, if Shell has an oil spill, there’s no telling how massive the damage to the environment will be.

Please sign the petition to President Obama and show him that Americans care more about the Arctic and its wildlife than Shell Oil’s obscene profits >>
