ASPCA Helping Haitis Animals

February 9, 2010 by: fluffyfeet

The ASPCA joined the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti or ARCH to go to the island to help the animals who have also been victims of the earthquake there.

From the ASPCA Feb. 4 news bulletin:

ARCH was created to address the needs of animals in Haiti in this time of crisis. The coalition is headed by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), and in addition to the ASPCA, consists of a number of animal welfare groups including American Humane, Best Friends, the Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International.

The ASPCA has joined ARCH with the belief that partnering across organizations is the most effective way to address the serious and enormous problems facing animals in Haiti. There are an estimated 5 million head of livestock in the country (mostly goats), a large stray dog population, and an untold number of companion animals and native wildlife all adversely affected by the earthquake.

We all know how devastated these poor people are and how good it must feel to know that there are caring people there for them and their pets and farm or working animals. If I were in that situation, I can only imagine how good it would feel to know my animals were receiving help.   I think that would make it easier to face the rest of the tragedy around me.  Cats, dogs and all other animals owe these people a big thank you.

Here’s hoping these kind people who have gone to help the animals of Haiti remain safe themselves.  And here’s a big thanks to all of them.  I will be bringing you more updates in the days ahead.
