The Orangutan and the Hound

Orangutans are in environmental trouble in their native habitats. These apes have been subjected to unspeakable cruelty from poachers and trophy hunters.  Yet the species retains its almost human kindness and understanding.

In the world of animals, being different does not mean you cannot have compassion or offer friendship and sometimes this leads to what we humans may consider to be very strange friendships indeed. The animals themselves see nothing different or strange about it.  They only see that they have a friend that may look different and have different habits.  Nonetheless they will love and enjoy their friend for as long as they are there.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the human species could learn to be the same way?

The following link is to a video from National Geographic.  They are one of my favorites because of the work they do and the way they present the truth about our animal friends.  This is the story of an orangutan and a lonely hound dog who found one another and became the best of friends.  It is a beautiful story of unconditional acceptance and friendship.  Please follow the link, watch, enjoy and perhaps be inspired by it.
