I have heard it said that cats do not guard and are not fierce and fearless fighters. I have found both of these things to be untrue when it comes to the cats I have had the pleasure of sharing life with.
In fact, I had a big yellow neutered male cat that was declawed before I adopted him. He was one of the fiercest animals I have ever been around. He even put our Chow in her place and the dog would go in the other direction if she saw the cat was angry or even slightly upset. I would never have declawed this cat or any other. But this was the way he came to me so I lived with it. I do wonder though, how fierce this cat might have been if he had claws. I don’t think our dog would have wanted to find out.
What all this is leading to is a stating of my belief that cats love their families and homes just as much as dogs do and they will fight to defend them against danger, either real or perceived. Most cats are quite fearless and can be quite intimidating when angry.

Please watch as one little domestic cat chases off a bear. It is interesting to say the least but you may never look at that purring little bundle of fluff in your living room the same way again.
