Below you will find a copy of an email I received from the Defenders of Wildlife. There is a link to sign a petition to urge Canada to sign on to the international effort to help the Polar Bear. This is an effort that is far past time and we cannot afford to let up on the pressure to rescue these iconic animals from extinction.
It is almost impossible to believe that Polar Bear body parts like bear skin rugs,claws and skulls can still be purchased as home decorations in many parts of the world. Personally, I would rather see the live bears than decorate my home with the body parts from dead ones. It is time this trafficking in Polar Bear body parts is stopped once and for all.
We need Canada to sign on to this effort. It only takes a minute of your time to sign the petition and every signature helps. We must let the government of Canada know that most people in the world abhor this barbaric practice. There is strength in numbers when you are fighting this type of cruelty and that is why the more signatures, the better. Politicians tend to listen when a lot of people stand up. Maybe they listen for their own selfish reasons, but no matter their reasons, this is one way we get things done for the environment and wildlife habitat.
So please take a minute from your day to help these big white bears by signing on to the petition.

As polar bears struggle to survive, collectors in some countries can still buy polar bear skin rugs, claws, skulls and other parts to decorate their homes. Thanks to more than 43,000 Defenders supporters, the U.S. is proposing to increase protections for these iconic bears through CITES1, the powerful international agreement that regulates trade in imperiled wildlife. But this critical proposal needs the support of the Canadian government — and you can help persuade them to support it. Global warming is having a tremendous effect on our polar bears. Without drastic action, these arctic icons could disappear from the U.S. in a few short decades.2 With seasonal sea ice is well below average3, polar bear homes are literally melting away. Some are even drowning in their search for adequate sea ice for food. Besides their daily struggle to survive in a warming world, polar bears are also facing threats from oil drilling, poaching and pollution. This March, representatives from 175 nations will meet in Doha, Qatar to vote on strengthening protections for polar bears. Home to around 60 percent of the world’s polar bears,4 Canada’s support for this vital proposal would help save hundreds of polar bears each year — and give them a chance at a lasting future. Please take action today and help end the international commercial trade in polar bear parts.
