After the original 13 colonies and after ratification of The Constitution, Vermont was the first state admitted to the union. Then Vermont went on to give us two Presidents. Chester Alan Arthur was born in Fairfield in 1830 and Calvin Coolidge was born in Plymouth in 1872.
Vermont is the only New England state with no coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. The state is notable for Lake Champlain which makes up 50% of its western border and for The Green Mountains.
Forests cover over three fourths of Vermont. No wonder the state is noted for its scenery. Its also no wonder that they do not allow billboard advertising in the state. Why block out such beautiful countryside?
One thing for sure to thank Vermont for is Maple Syrup. They are the leading provider of this naturally good stuff in the nation. Pancakes anyone?
With all this natural beauty Vermonters must like to spend time in the great outdoors. There are a bunch of pets just waiting for adoption in your local shelters and rescues. If at all possible, why not try to take one or more of them in? They would enjoy the outdoors with you and you would be a happier person with the extra company.
